Anonymous Surfing with Firefox

To get started using the NeoTunnel™ tunneling proxy service to surf the web securely and anonymously on a Microsoft Windows based PC using the Firefox browser, follow these steps:

  1. Download these 4 files and save them on your Desktop:

    stunnel.exe
    stunnel.conf
    libssl32.dll
    libeay32.dll

You can move the last two files (the .dll files) to C:\WINNT\system32 if you'd prefer not to have them cluttering your Desktop.

  2. Double-click on the "stunnel" icon on the Desktop. If all is well, the secure tunnel should start and a small stunnel icon should appear in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen.

If you get an error, Windows probably saved the file stunnel.conf as stunnel.conf.txt rather than stunnel.conf. You'll have to rename the file back to stunnel.conf. You can do this as follows:

    • Select "Run" from the Start menu, type in "command" (without the quotes) and click "OK".

    • Type into the command prompt window "echo %USERPROFILE%" (again, no quotes) and press Enter.

    • Type into the command window "cd path", (with no quotes) replacing the word path with what was printed on the screen as a result of the last command.

    • Type into the command window "cd Desktop" (no quotes).

    • Type into the command window "ren stunnel.conf.txt stunnel.conf" (without the quotes, as usual).

    • Now you can close the command window by typing "exit" into it.

You should now be able to start the stunnel program without errors.

  3. Configure Firefox to use the proxy as follows:

    • Select Tools -> Options from the main menu.

    • In the Options window click on the "General" icon, and then on the "Connection Settings" button.

    • On the window which appears, enable "Manual proxy configuration" as well as "Use the same proxy for all protocols". In the "HTTP Proxy" field, type in "127.0.0.1" (without the quotes), and in the "Port:" field type in "8080" (without quotes).

    • If you would like to view some sites directly and not through the proxy, list them (separated by commas) in the "No Proxy for:" field.

NOTE: you must list neomailbox.net, neomailbox.nl, www.neomailbox.net, and www.neomailbox.nl in the "No Proxy for:" field, as the NeoTunnel proxy does not proxy requests for the Neomailbox Netherlands site itself. If you don't list these domains here, you won't be able to view the Neomailbox Netherlands site once the tunnel is activated.

    • Click "OK" and then "OK" again on the main Options window.

Now all your web requests will go through our SSL secured proxy and the results will be returned to you via the SSL secured channel.

You will be asked to supply your Neomailbox username and control panel password when you begin browsing.

That's all there is to it.

NOTE: When you restart your computer, you will need to restart the "stunnel" program (step 2 above) in order to be able to browse the web. Web browsing will not work unless stunnel is running.
